Asian Baptist Student Koinonia at Harvard Griffin GSAS is concerned with the religious, social, and cultural issues regarding Christianity and Asians and Christianity.

Organized wholly by GSAS PhD students, PhD Talks is an annual speaker series dedicated to the exploration of interdisciplinary themes that engage issues of space. PhD Talks is an opportunity for our program, which is deeply interdisciplinary, and includes participation from the departments of History, American Studies, Art History, Sociology, Philosophy, History of Science, Anthropology and Film and Visual Studies to come together as an intellectual unit and assert its relevance within the context of a professional school, the Graduate School of Design. It is also a chance for us to showcase the more historical and theoretical work being produced to the wider GSAS and Harvard community.

The PhD students also sponsor conferences such as the New England chapter of the Society of Architectural Historians Graduate Student Symposium, which takes place every year at a university in the Boston area, and at Harvard approximately every three years. These conferences offer the opportunity for graduate students in the department to connect with PhD students and faculty at other local institutions, as well as to share their research in a conference setting.

Our goal at the Biomedical Graduate Student Organization (BGSO) is to enrich and foster a sense of community among PhD students in the Life Sciences at Harvard Medical School, through a series of social and academic initiatives. BGSO represents the over 700 PhD students enrolled in HMS-based graduate programs affiliated with the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS). These include the Biological and Biomedical Sciences (BBS), Virology, Immunology, Neuroscience, Speech and Hearing Bioscience and Technology (SHBT), and Bioinfomatics and Integrative Genomics (BIG). BGSO is also a student funding entity which allocates resources to DMS-based student groups for social and/or academic activities.

Chalk Talks, a Harvard Griffin GSAS Student Group, meets monthly to share cool science, philosophical, and historical topics in chalk talk format. A chalk talk is a talk given using chalk and a chalkboard as a means to communicate ideas (no slides!). Topics have included life origins, theoretical experiment proposals, bioethics, the history of splitting an atom, and the world’s largest known bacteria. The format is roughly 7-10 min chalk talk with 5 min questions. Participants are required to give a talk to attend. Once or twice a year, faculty are invited to participate, promoting faculty-student discussion and collaboration.

The EALC Peer Mentoring Program serves to foster and strengthen a collaborative community among graduate students of various disciplines and G-years. Student Mentees (typically G1-G3, but open to all) are assigned to a Peer Mentor (G3+) who can offer advice on: -Adjusting to campus life and understanding university resources across campus -Establishing social, professional, and academic relationships both within the EALC department and campus-wide -Balancing coursework, TF-ships, and research with personal hobbies and interests -Navigating degree milestones such as generals, prospectus, and dissertation writing. In addition to the bi-weekly checkins for mentee-mentor pairs, the EALC Peer Mentoring Program also strives to organize a Welcome Party/BBQ, Writing Hour (3 per semester), *Peer-led* Prospectus Workshop Series, Generals Panel Series, End-of Year Celebration, Periodic Social Gatherings/Outings. These are open to the entire graduate student body within the EALC department.

The Fellowships & Writing Center seeks to provide GSAS students with the means to enhance the clarity and depth of their research and to aid in their professional development as scholars. The FWC offers individual consultations (by appointment), peer writing groups, and a variety of workshops to support GSAS students at all stages of their careers. Tutoring support is available to all GSAS students who seek to improve their fellowship proposals, academic papers, dissertations, and presentations. Overall, the FWC helps students to heighten the impact of their research by fostering and refining their written and oral communication skills. The Harvard Griffin GSAS Residence Halls are a great place to live while studying at Harvard. The purpose of the Graduate Residence Halls Council (GRHC) at Harvard Griffin GSAS, formerly known as the Graduate Dormitory Council (GDC), is to foster community among the residents of the Harvard Griffin GSAS halls via various social activities through the year.

The GRHC maintains close communication with residents on important Residence Halls issues, in coordination with the Harvard Griffin GSAS Office of Residential Life and the Office of Student Services. The GRHC also promotes and organizes social activities in the Residence Halls, and the GRHC provides funding for dorm-wide social events sponsored by Resident Advisors or residents.

About
The Graduate Society of Underrepresented Students in STEM, a Harvard Griffin GSAS Student Group (GSUSS) is dedicated to providing a space for Harvard Griffin GSAS students to come together throughout their time at Harvard for academic and personal community and support. We want to provide a space for like-minded students to share their lives inside and outside of Harvard. A 2015 report from the Council of Graduate Schools showed that in regard to underrepresented student graduate degree completion “racial/ethnic differences persist after controlling for the main and interactive effects of gender and field in seven-year completion and attrition”. Our group supports the well-being and long-term retention of members through social and networking events. It will be a welcoming space where members can talk freely about topics like the “unspoken curriculum” of being a Harvard Griffin GSAS student with regards to work/life balance, doing research, lab culture, advisor relationships, giving scientific talks, etc. Through weekly meetings and a yearly wellness retreat, GSUSS will be a place where underrepresented Harvard Griffin GSAS STEM students can celebrate with and support each other through the many triumphs and setbacks that may arise throughout any graduate career. We will also invite faculty speakers with expertise in diversity issues to engage the Harvard Griffin GSAS community on issues of diversity and equity in STEM.

The goals of Harvard Graduate Students in Linguistics (HGSL) are twofold: primarily, we strive to create an environment conducive to community building, by organizing social events (for example, the departmental Happy Hours and Study Breaks during the exam period), and implementing various community-building projects within our community (for example, the yearly Photo Contest). Secondly, we aim to provide opportunities for graduate students to acquire practical skills pertinent to our field of study, specifically those not otherwise offered by the department or GSAS. We do so by organizing workshops on specific topics, based on suggestions from the student body, led by members of the HGSL executive committee and fellow graduate student volunteers. For example, we organized a two-session workshop titled: 'Praat for Linggrads', which taught students how to use software that is useful for various linguistic studies, and we sometimes offer a similar workshop on LaTeX.

Communal use rackets are available, if you break the strings of a communal racket the cost for restringing is $20.

Shuttles:
All players who want to use new feather shuttles will need to bring their own. For doubles games, all 4 players should provide one shuttle (same for singles games), if your shuttle does not get used in a game, then use it earlier that the other players in your next game. Please try your best to be fair about this. For beginners who don't require new feather shuttles, we have many boxes of used feather shuttles as well as some plastic shuttles that you may use for free. For your convenience, you can purchase shuttles from us. If you can get shuttles from other sources please do so, our supply is rather limited.

The Harvard Griffin GSAS Breakdance Club is dedicated to the goal of providing members of the Harvard community, and specifically for all students at Harvard Griffin GSAS, space for the art and practice of hip hop street dances. The activities of HGGBC shall include, but not limited to: providing instruction in hip hop street dance styles such as breaking (“breakdancing”), conducting practice sessions for beginners and experienced dancers, participating in competitions, called jams, throughout the region to develop our competitive abilities, arranging watch-party socials for major competitions such as Red Bull, the Olympics, and other broadcasted jams, and hosting workshops with guest speakers about the culture of hip hop. Among the activities organized by the HGGBC are a 10-session business course offering an overview of the material typically covered in the first year of an MBA program, networking events for students in Harvard Griffin GSAS to interact with other students and business professionals, and a seminar series featuring professionals in business-or finance-related fields, such as entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, executives and investment bankers, and. The HGGBC will inform the Harvard Griffin GSAS community about sponsored events through, at minimum, its listserv and website.

The term ‘Sinophone’ refers specifically to the use of Chinese languages, which includes all speakers of Mandarin and Cantonese regardless of their ethnicity, nationality, or culture. The mission of Interdisciplinary Discussion on Disease and Health, a Harvard Griffin GSAS Student Group (IDDH-HGG), is to create a platform for students at Harvard Griffin GSAS to engage in interdisciplinary discussions outside the classroom or a single department on disease-related topics. In each discussion, one disease topic will be chosen, and we will actively reach out to students working on the topic to present their work. These students may major in different fields, including medicine, public health, basic biological science research, and engineering. They would gather and share their own work to assist each other in understanding how they attempt to address the targeted disease topic. Our club stands out in two ways. Firstly, we strive to create awareness about collaboration in science and form a community of students who are passionate about pursuing a scientific career, honing their scientific and professional communication skills, and sharing knowledge across different domains. Secondly, our discussions revolve around diseases. Students are encouraged to share the translational side of their knowledge and graduate work related to diseases. We provide opportunities for members to present their topics of interest in both informal discussions and formal presentations. The target audience of IDDH-HGG is primarily students at Harvard Griffin GSAS, but it can extend to diverse audiences, including high school students, established researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders.

Rowing on the Charles river is one of Harvard's greatest traditions. The Rowing Club at Harvard Griffin GSAS aims to provide the opportunity to enjoy that tradition to Harvard Griffin GSAS Students and other Harvard Graduate Students and Associates. We train and row in sweep boats, currently in 8+s but with hopes to acquire a 4+ in the future. We prioritise weekly training to keep those who love to row on the water but also enter local regattas from casual events like the MIT Hamburger Cup to the Head of the Charles for more experienced rowers. If you love to row, we'd love to have you (especially if you are a cox!). To bridge the communication gap between scientists and non-scientists. We accomplish this by providing free seminars, lessons, social events, and written material on varying science topics for the general public. We provide science PhD students in Harvard Griffin GSAS the chance to hone their communication skills by hosting these events and by giving feedback on their presentations and articles.

The Slavic Studies Graduate Collective serves as a hub for graduate students in the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures, fostering community and intellectual exchange across our diverse fields of study. Our programming will include regular film screenings showcasing cinema, poetry discussion groups exploring works in original languages and translation, and language tables providing informal opportunities to practice Ukrainian, Russian, Polish, Czech, and other Slavic languages. We also plan to organize casual social gatherings to build connections beyond the academic setting. We welcome students from related programs including History, Comparative Literature, REECA, and other disciplines with interests in the cultures and languages of Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

The Spanish Language Table offers Harvard Griffin GSAS students the opportunity to informally practice Spanish.

La Mesa de Español ofrece a los estudiantes de Harvard Griffin GSAS la oportunidad de practicar español de manera informal.

Typically, the table consists of around four speakers ranging from beginning to intermediate, but speakers of all levels are welcome. The table is a space for learning, so you will always be given time to think, ask questions, and speak. As with any learning environment, mistakes are expected and serve as a welcome form of effort! Please reach out if you have any questions, and I hope to see you at our next meeting.

The Student Center at Harvard Griffin GSAS offers social, intellectual, and recreational activities designed to help students make connections outside of the classroom, lab, library, and across the various academic programs and campus locations in Harvard Griffin GSAS. The Center Squad supports operations at Lehman Hall, oversees Engage (our student activities portal), advises the Student Council, and manages the Student Fellows. And as your Intellectual, Cultural, and Literary Fellows at the Student Center, we're here to provide you with additional activities to enrich your Harvard experience. Through film screenings, faculty dinners and other activities, we hope to foster discussions that fuel our ongoing quest for intellectual growth and learn more about our different cultural customs and ways of knowing. We offer book clubs, creative writing workshops, film screenings, poetry and songwriting nights, as well as discussion groups, and study bootcamps. We also publish The Graduate Review, an annual journal featuring writing and artwork by Harvard Griffin GSAS students.

Since its formation in 1983, the W. E. B. Du Bois Graduate Society of Harvard Griffin GSAS has worked to foster an inclusive and supportive educational environment at Harvard Griffin GSAS. Named after the eminent African American scholar and civil rights leader W. E. B. Du Bois, the first African American to receive a doctoral degree from Harvard University (in 1895), the Society serves as a forum for Harvard Griffin GSAS students to connect, share experiences and discuss issues related to equity, inclusion, and academic advancement. The Society has provided a space for social, intellectual and collaborative engagement among graduate students from a wide range of backgrounds and is open and welcoming to students of all races and ethnicities. The organization fosters engagement with faculty and administrators, connecting students across departments and professional schools.   /p\r\npThe mission of the W.E.B.
