The Animal Welfare Student Group at at Harvard GSAS is dedicated to the goal of providing education, awareness, and community spaces on animal welfare primarily for students at GSAS. Asian Baptist Student Koinonia at Harvard Griffin GSAS is concerned with the religious, social, and cultural issues regarding Christianity and Asians and Christianity.

The group will seek to promote greater awareness and understanding of these issues in the Harvard community, and specifically among Harvard Griffin GSAS students, by appropriate means such as Bible studies, publications, meetings, seminars, and other educational activities.  The group’s activities and services will be available to all members of the Harvard University community, regardless of race, creed, color, sex, sexual orientation, age, or physical disability.

We're a group of Christian graduate students who are excited to know God more, to study the truths of the Bible together, and to share God’s love with the Harvard grad student community. Chalk Talks, a Harvard Griffin GSAS Student Group, has an overall mission to promote scientific and philosophical discourse in a welcoming and fun environment. This group will serve the Harvard Griffin GSAS community by providing a friendly environment for cross-departmental socializing and professional development, as detailed below under Goals.

Chalk Talks, a Harvard Griffin GSAS Student Group, meets monthly to share cool science, philosophical, and historical topics in chalk talk format. A chalk talk is a talk given using chalk and a chalkboard as a means to communicate ideas (no slides!). Topics have included life origins, theoretical experiment proposals, bioethics, the history of splitting an atom, and the world’s largest known bacteria. The format is roughly 7-10 min chalk talk with 5 min questions. Participants are required to give a talk to attend. Once or twice a year, faculty are invited to participate, promoting faculty-student discussion and collaboration.

FISH exists to build a welcoming and loving Christian community for international students at Harvard Griffin GSAS that can be their “home away from home.” The group is open to all students at Harvard Griffin GSAS, regardless of religious beliefs or international/domestic status. We seek to foster a loving community through weekly Bible studies and dinners, weekly prayer on Zoom, and monthly social and cultural events, such as board game nights, international potluck dinners, and cross-country skiing outings.

The East Asia Society, a Harvard Griffin GSAS Student Group, hereafter referred to as HEAS, promotes the study of East Asia within the Harvard graduate students community, particularly among the students in the Harvard Kenneth C. Griffin Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. While HEAS is centered on the Regional Studies--East Asia degree program, it is open to all those with an interest in East Asian cultures, history, and society in any other departments within the Harvard Griffin GSAS. Activities include providing information to members on East Asian-related activities at Harvard and in the larger academic community, sponsoring speakers and workshops on items of interest to members, organizing and conducting an annual academic seminar focused on East Asia.

The Harvard Griffin GSAS Residence Halls are a great place to live while studying at Harvard. The purpose of the Graduate Residence Halls Council (GRHC) at Harvard Griffin GSAS, formerly known as the Graduate Dormitory Council (GDC), is to foster community among the residents of the Harvard Griffin GSAS halls via various social activities through the year.

The GRHC maintains close communication with residents on important Residence Halls issues, in coordination with the Harvard Griffin GSAS Office of Residential Life and the Office of Student Services. The GRHC also promotes and organizes social activities in the Residence Halls, and the GRHC provides funding for dorm-wide social events sponsored by Resident Advisors or residents.

STEM, a Harvard Griffin GSAS Student Group
About
The Graduate Society of Underrepresented Students in STEM, a Harvard Griffin GSAS Student Group (GSUSS) is dedicated to providing a space for Harvard Griffin GSAS students to come together throughout their time at Harvard for academic and personal community and support. We want to provide a space for like-minded students to share their lives inside and outside of Harvard. A 2015 report from the Council of Graduate Schools showed that in regard to underrepresented student graduate degree completion “racial/ethnic differences persist after controlling for the main and interactive effects of gender and field in seven-year completion and attrition”. Our group supports the well-being and long-term retention of members through social and networking events. It will be a welcoming space where members can talk freely about topics like the “unspoken curriculum” of being a Harvard Griffin GSAS student with regards to work/life balance, doing research, lab culture, advisor relationships, giving scientific talks, etc. Through weekly meetings and a yearly wellness retreat, GSUSS will be a place where underrepresented Harvard Griffin GSAS STEM students can celebrate with and support each other through the many triumphs and setbacks that may arise throughout any graduate career. We will also invite faculty speakers with expertise in diversity issues to engage the Harvard Griffin GSAS community on issues of diversity and equity in STEM.

Rackets:
Communal use rackets are available, if you break the strings of a communal racket the cost for restringing is $20.

Shuttles:
All players who want to use new feather shuttles will need to bring their own. For doubles games, all 4 players should provide one shuttle (same for singles games), if your shuttle does not get used in a game, then use it earlier that the other players in your next game. Please try your best to be fair about this. For beginners who don't require new feather shuttles, we have many boxes of used feather shuttles as well as some plastic shuttles that you may use for free. For your convenience, you can purchase shuttles from us. If you can get shuttles from other sources please do so, our supply is rather limited.

The Harvard Griffin GSAS Breakdance Club is dedicated to the goal of providing members of the Harvard community, and specifically for all students at Harvard Griffin GSAS, space for the art and practice of hip hop street dances. The activities of HGGBC shall include, but not limited to: providing instruction in hip hop street dance styles such as breaking (“breakdancing”), conducting practice sessions for beginners and experienced dancers, participating in competitions, called jams, throughout the region to develop our competitive abilities, arranging watch-party socials for major competitions such as Red Bull, the Olympics, and other broadcasted jams, and hosting workshops with guest speakers about the culture of hip hop. The Harvard Griffin GSAS Business Club (hereafter referred to as HGBC) is dedicated to providing business education and business-related career development resources to the Harvard Griffin GSAS community. We also seek to provide networking opportunities for students in Harvard Griffin GSAS interested in business. Among the activities organized by the HGGBC are a 10-session business course offering an overview of the material typically covered in the first year of an MBA program, networking events for students in Harvard Griffin GSAS to interact with other students and business professionals, and a seminar series featuring professionals in business-or finance-related fields, such as entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, executives and investment bankers, and. The HGGBC will inform the Harvard Griffin GSAS community about sponsored events through, at minimum, its listserv and website.

The Harvard Griffin GSAS Episcopal Student Association is a community that proclaims Christ’s life, death, and resurrection; embraces faith, mystery, and doubt; and strives to love like Jesus through the grace of the Holy Spirit. We pray, serve our neighbors, and challenge one another to grow in faith. In partnership with The Episcopal Chaplaincy at Harvard (ECH) and the Episcopal Students at Harvard College (ESHC), we seek to provide an intentional space for Harvard Griffin GSAS students to participate in the rich traditions of the Episcopal Church while fostering a strong sense of community and fellowship. Graduate school provides a unique opportunity for introspection and growth. We seek to provide a space for spiritual exploration for all students, regardless of whether they are new to the faith, grew up Episcopalian, or are simply curious to learn about our tradition. We hold Eucharist services followed by a communal dinner every Sunday evening during the academic year, host weekly Bible studies, and organize pilgrimages to sacred sites both locally in New England and internationally. The Harvard Griffin GSAS Sinophone Debate Student Association (HGG SDSA) is committed to cultivating a dynamic and inclusive community of debaters, open to students across Harvard Griffin GSAS and other community members. The term ‘Sinophone’ refers specifically to the use of Chinese languages, which includes all speakers of Mandarin and Cantonese regardless of their ethnicity, nationality, or culture. Sinophone debate serves as a vehicle to explore a wide range of topics—from love to ethics, from technology to equity—sparking deep conversations that strengthen interpersonal connections and promote a sense of belonging. The work of our group increases intercultural understanding, fosters critical thinking, and cultivates intellectual growth for our members. /p\r\n /p\r\nOur mission is to provide participants from all backgrounds with the opportunity to enhance their debating and public speaking skills in Chinese languages. We achieve this through a diverse range of activities, including weekly training sessions, mock debates, group discussions, debate watch parties, domestic and international competitive tournaments (~3 major tournaments per year), and open house debate nights. The Student Association offers both a competitive team and a casual group, allowing members to engage at their preferred level of intensity, while encouraging involvement in both. Beyond debate, we prioritize the creation of a close-knit community, and work to foster meaningful connections. Social activities, such as shared meals following training sessions, debate watch parties, and open house debate nights, are integral to our approach. /p\r\n /p\r\nIn addition, we seek to engage with expert faculty and professionals through guest lectures and discussions, particularly on specialized topics, to further enrich our members' intellectual growth. The Harvard Griffin GSAS Soccer Club is dedicated to promoting fitness, wellness, and community among students through recreational and competitive soccer. The Harvard Griffin GSAS Student-Parents Group enriches the academic experience of and provides visibility and support to parents in Harvard Griffin GSAS (and across Harvard) and their families. A robust support system for student-parents and families helps create a caring and nurturing environment for the entire Harvard community, encourages and makes possible a healthy work-life balance for student-parents, and attracts a diverse, well-rounded, accomplished, and mature pool of graduate students./p\r\nWe provide a supportive community for fellow graduate students with children. Toward this aim, we host a variety of community-building events and initiatives. Our Families Brunch, co-hosted with the Student Center at Harvard Griffin GSAS, welcomes students and their children to graduate school. Events like our clothing/toy exchanges, our annual free photo-shoot with the Harvard Griffin GSAS Photography Society, and child-friendly events with the Student Center at Harvard Griffin GSAS Fellows provide tangible benefits for families and opportunities to meet others. Our hosted panels and work-life balance sessions provide students and partners with parenting advice and support. We also host a Facebook group and listserv to allow students to seek help from other student-parents and stay up-to-date on family-friendly activities./p\r\nWe also engage in advocacy for student-parent interests. We meet with Harvard Griffin GSAS administration to seek the implementation of family-friendly policies in a broad range of advocacy areas. Our efforts have led to updates to the Parental Accommodations and Financial Support program, the implementation of the Care.com backup care benefit, and the centralization of and access to lactation rooms across campus. We also regularly gather data on student-parents through surveys and the Harvard Registrar to better understand the needs of our members./p

Mission
The mission of Interdisciplinary Discussion on Disease and Health, a Harvard Griffin GSAS Student Group (IDDH-HGG), is to create a platform for students at Harvard Griffin GSAS to engage in interdisciplinary discussions outside the classroom or a single department on disease-related topics. In each discussion, one disease topic will be chosen, and we will actively reach out to students working on the topic to present their work. These students may major in different fields, including medicine, public health, basic biological science research, and engineering. They would gather and share their own work to assist each other in understanding how they attempt to address the targeted disease topic. Our club stands out in two ways. Firstly, we strive to create awareness about collaboration in science and form a community of students who are passionate about pursuing a scientific career, honing their scientific and professional communication skills, and sharing knowledge across different domains. Secondly, our discussions revolve around diseases. Students are encouraged to share the translational side of their knowledge and graduate work related to diseases. We provide opportunities for members to present their topics of interest in both informal discussions and formal presentations. The target audience of IDDH-HGG is primarily students at Harvard Griffin GSAS, but it can extend to diverse audiences, including high school students, established researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders.

pLGBTQ@GSAS provides a community and safe space for GSAS students who self-identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer graduate students or self-identify as an LGBTQ ally. Our events every month include social gatherings, educational workshops on LGBTQ topics, activism to engage with real-world issues, and professional development. Rowing on the Charles river is one of Harvard's greatest traditions. The Rowing Club at Harvard Griffin GSAS aims to provide the opportunity to enjoy that tradition to Harvard Griffin GSAS Students and other Harvard Graduate Students and Associates. We train and row in sweep boats, currently in 8+s but with hopes to acquire a 4+ in the future. We prioritise weekly training to keep those who love to row on the water but also enter local regattas from casual events like the MIT Hamburger Cup to the Head of the Charles for more experienced rowers. The objective of the United Scholars in Neuroscience (USN), a Harvard Griffin GSAS Student Group is to recruit, train, and support Harvard Griffin GSAS students interested in neuroscience. We achieve this objective through career development, community building, and networking events. Since its formation in 1983, the W. E. B. Du Bois Graduate Society of Harvard Griffin GSAS has worked to foster an inclusive and supportive educational environment at Harvard Griffin GSAS. Named after the eminent African American scholar and civil rights leader W. E. B. Du Bois, the first African American to receive a doctoral degree from Harvard University (in 1895), the Society serves as a forum for Harvard Griffin GSAS students to connect, share experiences and discuss issues related to equity, inclusion, and academic advancement. The Society has provided a space for social, intellectual and collaborative engagement among graduate students from a wide range of backgrounds and is open and welcoming to students of all races and ethnicities. The organization fosters engagement with faculty and administrators, connecting students across departments and professional schools.   /p\r\npThe mission of the W.E.B.
